About Nadezhda Gonchar
Former First Soloist of the Mariinsky Theatre, Vaganova Graduate Ballet Teacher, Artistic Producer, Internationally Acclaimed Artist
Born in Kiev, Nadezhda Gonchar graduated with distinction from the Kiev State School of Dance in 1996. She began her professional career at the National Shevchenko Theatre, where she danced leading roles such as Myrtha (Giselle), Aurora and the Lilac Fairy (Sleeping Beauty), Juliet (Lifar's Romeo and Juliet), and the Queen of the Dryads (Don Quixote). In 1999, she won First Prize at the Serge Lifar International Ballet Competition.
In 2002, she joined the Mariinsky Ballet, where she danced for two decades, rising to the rank of First Soloist. She remained with the company until 2022.
Her extensive repertoire included: Classical roles such as Sylph and Effie (La Sylphide), Gulnare (Le Corsaire), Trio of Shades (La Bayadère), Princess Florine and Aurora (Sleeping Beauty), Big Swan and Pas de Trois (Swan Lake), Clemance and Henrietta (Raymonda), Maria (Fountain of Bakhchisarai), Masha (The Nutcracker), Juliet's Friends (Romeo and Juliet), and more. Neoclassical & contemporary works: Fokine's Chopiniana and Spectre de la Rose, Balanchine's Apollo, Jewels, Symphony in C, Four Temperaments, Tarantella, Serenade, Ashton's Sylvia, Forsythe's Steptext and Vertiginous Thrill of Exactitude, McGregor's Infra, Poklitaru's Symphony in Three Movements, and others.
Known for her brilliant technique, musicality, and signature style Nadezhda performed on many of the world's greatest stages during her career with the Mariinsky and remains deeply respected for her artistry, precision, and passion.
