Marie-France Levesque
Marie-France Lévesque is a former ballerina with American Ballet Theatre, where she danced for eleven years under the direction of Mikhail Baryshnikov, performing numerous principal and soloist roles and receiving recognition as an Artist of Exceptional Achievement.
Before joining ABT, she performed with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens for three years, dancing several principal roles in Concerto Barocco, Jewels (Balanchine), The Nutcracker, and Carmina Burana, among others. She was invited by Mikhail Baryshnikov to join American Ballet Theatre, where she went on to perform an extensive repertoire and work with many of the most influential figures in ballet.
Throughout her career, Ms. Lévesque trained under and collaborated with a remarkable array of ballet masters and choreographers, including Rudolf Nureyev, Natalia Makarova, Irina Kolpakova, Vladilen Semyonov, Agnes de Mille, Anthony Tudor, Kenneth McMillan, Twyla Tharp, Melissa Hayden, Maggie Black, William Burmann, and Lar Lubovitch.
Her artistry and versatility led to international engagements, and she performed as a guest artist both nationally and abroad, appearing in renowned galas such as Don des toiles (Gifts of the Stars) in Montreal, Canada, alongside Sylvie Guillem, Paloma Herrera, Patricia McBride, and Fernando Bujones.
After an accomplished performing career, Ms. Lévesque transitioned into choreography and education, devoting her expertise to the next generation of dancers. She has been teaching and choreographing in the greater Los Angeles and Orange County areas since 1996 and is the Founder and Artistic Director of The Los Angeles Dance Company (LADC).
A dedicated and distinguished educator, she is an ABT® National Training Curriculum Certified Teacher, accredited from Primary Level through Level 7, and has taught at universities, professional academies, and master workshops across the United States. Ms. Lévesque also served as a Guest Master Teacher at the Gillespie American Ballet Theatre Dance School in Costa Mesa for ten years, shaping the technical and artistic growth of hundreds of students.
Her expertise has made her a respected adjudicator for both The Music Center Spotlight Awards and Youth America Grand Prix, where she continues to mentor and inspire young dancers at regional and international levels.
Known for her refined classical approach and her deep understanding of musicality, artistry, and performance, Marie-France Lévesque remains a guiding force in American dance education, bridging the heritage of classical ballet with the artistry of modern performance.
